BALL BEARINGS REDESIGN

During my time as Enterprise Design Editor, I took on the seemingly impossible task of redesigning Ball Bearings Magazine with the help of Ellen Collier, Hannah Dominiak and Erika Espinoza. The redesign included not just a redesign of typefaces and colors, but a complete rethink of the entire magazine's content structure. I emphasized the importance of the audience to the magazine's editorial staff, and we created a new style based on the needs of that audience.

Due to previous editorial miscommunications, the features section of the magazine had been eliminated from the magazine. During the redesign, I strongly suggested that they bring the features section back to the magazine because of it's importance to maintaining the structural hierarchy of the magazine.

Ball Bearings also went from a directionless news magazine to a more college-friendly lifestyle magazine. Although the features allow for more flexibility in topics, the majority of the department pages are about the college lifestyle.

The new colors and type allow for more flexibility. The previous style was very feminine and rigid, but the new style reflects more gender neutrality.

I will be implementing the redesign as Art Director this semester with the help of Hannah Dominiak, the current Enterprise Design Editor.

DAILY NEWS ART DIRECTION

Several times throughout this semester as Art Director, I have had the opportunity to work with my talented design staff to conceptualize and create some very conceptual A1s and newspapers.

I had the opportunity to serve as the design editor during the production of the Unified Media effort to introduce our new president, Paul Ferguson and work with other designers to come up with some fun, interesting A1 designs.
